Win32 exception in WebpackDevMiddleware.UseWebpackDevMiddleware #1121

I created a new project using the yoeman template generator - yo aspnetcore-spa and selecting Angular 2. When I run the project via the dotnet CLI, i can see the server start and I'm able to browse to the server without issues using http://localhost:5000.

When I open the included .xproj though, I have a different result. I'm given a runtime exception because the UseWebpackDevMIddleware extension method can not find the Content/node/webpack-dev-middleware.js file. I confirmed this by bringing the source to this extension into my project and running it.

If I comment out the middleware below, then the exception is thrown later during runtime when it tries to resolve the index.cshtml file. It's the same exception with the same stacktrace, just happens later down the road instead of during server bootup.

Why does this work fine when running through dotnet run but blow up in Visual Studio 2015 Update 3? I'm running .Net Core 1.0.1 VS 2015 Tooling Preview 2 on Windows 10. I've also got the following dotnet core runtimes installed.

  • dotnet core 1.0.0 - SDK Preview 2
  • dotnet core 1.0.1 - sdk 1.0.0 preview 2
  • dotnet core 1.1.0 - sdk 1.0.0 preview 2

I'm running [.Net Core 1.0.1 VS 2015 Tooling Preview 2](https://www.microsoft.com/net/download/core#/sdk) on Windows 10.
